Healthy Ageing is many things all connected
From research by the US National Library of Medicine about successful aging.
We all want to age successfully. But what does that mean, exactly? And how can we make it happen?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to those questions, but there are some time-tested secrets to successful aging. Some of them have to do with physical health, others with mental and emotional well-being. But all of them are important if you want to age well.
Here are some of the most important secrets to ageing successfully :
1. Get regular exercise.
Physical activity and Tai Chi, in particular, is one of the most important things you can do to stay healthy as you age. Regular exercise helps to maintain muscle mass, flexibility and balance, all of which are important for staying mobile and independent as we age. Exercise also helps to reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke and osteoporosis. Exercise helps to keep your heart and lungs healthy, strengthens your bones and muscles, and helps to prevent falls and other injuries.
2. Eat a healthy diet.
Just as exercise is important for physical health, a healthy diet is important for mental and emotional health. Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains helps to keep your brain sharp, while avoiding processed foods and too much sugar can help to prevent mood swings and other mental health problems. It is also important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, including water, and to limit our intake of alcohol and caffeine.
3. Stay social.
A strong social network is important for both physical and mental health. Connecting with friends and loved ones helps to reduce stress and Tai Chi classes often lead to lifelong friendships. Social interaction and activity help to keep our minds sharp and can improve our mood and outlook on life. It is also important to stay mentally active by doing things like reading, learning new skills and puzzles. Finally, staying positive, focussing on the good things in life and finding ways to enjoy each day have a big impact on ageing succesfully.
