Then why not give tai chi classes a try? Every Saturday at 2.30pm students from all of Master Li Wong’s classes come together to practice tai chi in the open air in the stunning Alexandra Gardens.
The gardens are located at 70 Cotham Road Kew. They are conveniently located next to Kew Library where there is lots of parking available along with easy access via public transport.
Tai chi at Alexandra Gardens Kew run every Saturday. The only exception to this is the Saturdays between Christmas and New Year. Everyone is welcome to join in and discover the benefits of practicing tai chi in the open air.
The cost is only $20 per class. However, for most students it is free as they have already taken at least one of Master Li Wong’s classes during the week. This includes tai chi classes held in Bayswater, Brighton, Caulfield and Kew.

Tai chi is a traditional Chinese exercise. It is performed using gentle movements. This makes it suitable for all ages and abilities. What makes tai chi different from many other forms of exercise is that it benefits your mind as well as your body. What to expect when you join our Tai Chi classes in Kew
There is always a friendly and relaxed atmosphere at Master Li Wong’s tai chi classes that he holds in both the Eastern and Bayside suburbs of Melbourne. No special clothing is required – just turn up in loose comfortable clothing. Also, no prior knowledge of tai chi is required.
Most of the tai chi classes Master Li Wong teaches have students at all levels – ie from beginners to advanced. Each class starts with all students doing the First Form of Tai Chi. The First Form is great for your lungs and is a relaxing form. It is also the foundation for learning other forms.
Once the First Form of Tai Chi is completed, students work in different groups according to their level. In fact, they spread out into different groups around the Alexandra Gardens to practice various tai chi forms. It is a good chance to practice with students from the different tai chi classes Master Li Wong teaches.

When you decide to start tai chi classes in by Master Li Wong you know that you will be taught an authentic and traditional form of tai chi. This is because Master Wong was born into a family who have been involved in teaching tai chi for multiple generations. He is also a qualified Traditional Chinese Medical Practitioner. Because of this, Master Wong’s tai chi is not just an exercise but a means to heal the body.
At a very young age Master Li Wong started training with one of the most famous Wu Tang Tai Chi Masters, Mr Fu Zhen Song. After Master Fu passed away Master Li Wong continued to train under Master Fu’s son, Fu Wing Fai, and his foremost disciple, Wung Hung. At this time Master Li Wong also trained at the Quang-Chou Wu-Shu Academy in China.
After arriving in Melbourne over 30 years ago, he began teaching tai chi classes all over Melbourne – including Kew. He has a lot of loyal students who have been with him for many years learning the different forms of tai chi.
Master Li Wong considers it a privilege to continue the family tradition by teaching Tai Chi. He has a particular passion for introducing new students to the benefits of tai chi and how this gentle form of exercise can bring back balance to life.
